The Economics Department at the University of Kentucky offers a comprehensive range of degrees, including bachelor's, master’s, and Ph.D. programs. In collaboration with other University colleges, students can pursue one of three specialized undergraduate economics degrees. Through the Gatton College of Business and Economics, students may earn a Bachelor of Science in Business and Economics. Alternatively, the College of Arts and Sciences offers a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Economics, a Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Economics (MAEC), and a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Foreign Language and International Economics (FLIE).
Students pursuing an undergraduate degree in economics gain a strong foundation in business, along with valuable skills in forecasting economic conditions, analyzing trends, and leveraging data to make strategic decisions. These skills prepare graduates for a wide range of career paths, including roles in financial analysis, data analytics, policy research, and consulting. Many graduates advance to roles with organizations such as Federal Reserve Banks, the FBI, and Teach for America or pursue further studies in law school or graduate programs in economics, public policy, or business. Others become consultants or analysts in the private and public sectors, helping organizations make data-driven decisions and operate more efficiently. Additionally, students can connect with peers and explore career opportunities by participating in the Economic Society.
