UK Army ROTC Fund Drive – Spring 2012
April 21, 2012 the Army ROTC Wildcat Battalion kicked off a fundraising drive to help fund Phase 2 renovations to the General Don Carlos Buell Armory and Barker Hall at UK. The Armory is one of the oldest buildings on campus and was in great need of modern upgrades. Originally finished in 1901, the Armory has been home to the Cadets for over 100 years, since the days UK was known as A&M college of Kentucky, and unofficially known as Kentucky State College. There is still a decorative KSC lamp hangar on the front of the Armory which survives to this day, highlighting the important history of the building. The project began with a vision to bring the Armory on par with the rest of the buildings on campus and provide a learning and training environment conducive for proper Cadet development. Senior leaders in the university and an extensive community of generous alumni and supporters of the program believed in our vision. Together, they teamed up to contribute more than $500,000 for the renovation. With that money we were able to recreate a professional space that welcomes Cadets, athletes, faculty, and prospective students into an environment that fosters intellectual growth and excellence. Words cannot express how grateful we are to all who supported our vision and contributed to the betterment of our program. Stop in for a visit anytime.
