Applied Bioinformatics Research. Meets with CS 485G-002. This course will introduce students to concepts, methods and tools underlying the generation and analyses of large DNA sequence datasets. The course will include lectures covering essential background information, with the majority of instruction being delivered via hands-on, computer lab sessions. Participants will perform real-world research while gaining practical skills using command-line bioinformatics tools, in cloud-based and high performance computing environments. Activities will include DNA sequence quality assessment and trimming, genome assembly, genome comparisons, gene prediction, data visualization/exploration, and more. Pre-req: Junior Standing or Permission of Instructor
