On Wednesday, May 3, at 4:00 p.m., the College of Arts and Sciences hosted the second annual Hajja Razia Sharif Sheikh Islamic Studies Lecture at the W. T. Young Library. The speaker was Amina Wadud, professor, an international consultant on Islam, gender, and justice, and a visiting scholar at the Starr King School for the Ministry in Berkeley, CA, Renowned as a leading Islamic feminist, Wadud’s lecture, “Women Shall Lead Them: Islamic Reform 21st Century,” explored the evolution of the Muslim Women’s Movement, its global challenges, and the future paradigm shift. The lecture also addressed the rise of Islamic feminism and its interplay with secular Muslim feminism and Political Islam.
