The Sankofa Awards, honoring African-American men who have demonstrated excellence in the categories of service, social and environmental justice, scholarship, philanthropy, creativity and entrepreneurship, will provide a symbolic end to the series that began in December 2011.

As you may have heard from some of our podcasts, the Hive is A&S' newly unified team of both creative and technical services which provides the College with support on web and print media projects, public relations, and computing and information services. We are organized into 13 structured, yet fluid teams. We are a higher education-multimedia-information-technology-powerhouse.
The “3rd Bluegrass Algebra Conference,” organized by Alberto Corso, Claudia Polini, Bernd Ulrich and Javid Validashti, will be held at the University of Kentucky (Lexington) during the period June 14-16, 2012.
This conference continues a well established tradition of Commutative Algebra and Algebraic Geometry meetings in the Midwest. Young mathematicians are especially encouraged to attend. There is a limited amount of support provided by the National Science Foundation through the Special Algebra Meetings in the Midwest grant (NSF DMS-0753127). The deadline for being considered for financial support is June 1, 2012.

Casey Carmichael, who earned his masters degree in Classics at the University in Kentucky in 2010, has been awarded six-month doctoral fellowship from the Leibniz Institute for European History in Mainz, Germany.
“Receiving the fellowship has brought me great joy and an added sense of motivation to pursue my doctoral research,” Carmichael said.
